The LCD on top of the body stays on so I expect a slight drain. Sure would be nice, if it at least slowed it to a manageable drain. I should know soon if that was the problem. After reading this thread I found the GPS is on. I've taken the lens off & the cards out and still get the same drain rate. I have a battery grip & both drain in a couple days. I've been having the battery drain issue on my d610. I have Nikon, Watson (from B&H) and something "Green" (from Adorama) EN-EL23 batteries and they all work well. If you only have one battery I'd suggest buying another so you have something to compare to. I'd suggest resetting the P610 and then changing all of the menu options to reasonable, power-saving values. There's no way to know from what you've already told us. The last time I used the P610 was 2 months ago in December and based on the photos, the last time the battery was charged (I use an external, non-Nikon charger) was last July. I just checked my P610 and the battery is getting low (the battery status bar is only half the usual length). That's a silly response, designed only to make life easier for Nikon's tech. Since I often forget to do that, I always have a backup battery in the charger! Somewhere, I read that would happen if you don't turn off the GPS. I contacted Nikon support and got the following response: "If you are not going to be using the camera for awhile it is advisable to remove the battery so that it retains more of a charge."ĭoes it sound like the battery or camera is defective? Is there a setting in the camera that is somehow draining the battery while it's "off"? Or is this normal behavior for this camera? I haven't had this behavior with any other camera I've owned, which have included Canon and Olympus brands - these could sit unused for months and months and still retain a good charge. For example, after two weeks of non-use, the battery is almost completely drained. But I have noticed the battery drains extremely quickly when the camera is turned off and not in use. I've had my P610 for about four months, and haven't had a chance to use it much. I looked for smart phone emulators to reside on my laptop, but I was not happy with any of them. On my pocket zooms I turned WiFi OFF, simply because I have no smart phone for them to talk to. I also found that Bluetooth is ON by default, and I switched that OFF as well.īack to cameras, generally I go through the menu when I buy a new camera, and I turn off everything that might drain the battery without my intention. This also stops updates from crashing Windows when they replace the WiFi driver. My work-around is to use a cable connection via a USB - Ethernet converter, so I can switch WiFi OFF in Windows. The 'nextbook' instructions actually state that WiFi drains the battery with constant Windows updates, and because the tablet keeps calling for a WiFi connection when there is none available. My business partner gave me her 'nextbook' tablet because it did not last on the battery, and the power supply has a plug and socket that lasts mechanically just a couple of months. I've ordered a second battery to see if the one that came with the camera is somehow defective.
